Weather to write by

I’ve never been one of those people who can write with music playing in the background. I’m far too easily distracted for that. Even now, my husband has Pandora playing, and it took me three tries to write those first two sentences properly, which is pretty pathetic.

So while music is a huge no, weather is a YES of epic proportions. The darker, gloomier and stormier the better. I don’t know what it is, but when the weather is bad, the creative juices get flowing, and I have to pry my hands from the keyboard. Pretty much the only good thing about living in Florida in the summertime (unless oppressive humidity is your thing, of course) is that you are almost guaranteed a thunderstorm every afternoon sometime between the hours of 2 and 4 pm. Lately this has corresponded to my daughter’s afternoon nap, which … crap, I probably shouldn’t have said that because I’m sure I just jinxed myself. Dammit. Well, it was nice while it lasted.
