Best posts of the week

I’m trying out a new thing here. I read so many great posts on craft or industry during the week, and then invariably I want to go back to one and re-read a few days later … only to discover I can’t for the life of remember who wrote it. I follow a lot A LOT of blogs, so I felt like I was constantly going on a paper(less) chase. I needed a solution.

VOILA! It’s a round-up of posts I thought were interesting and helpful from the past week. Hopefully you think it’s helpful too! I may or may not make this a regular feature. Only time will tell.

On craft:

Agent Mary Kole on mimetic writing.

Author Roni Loren warns against getting lost in the minutiae.

From Adventures in Children’s Publishing, how to write a novel and why you can’t fake it.

From Operation Awesome, top 10 tips for writing awesome stories.

Two goodies from Paper Hangover. First, how to create a killer setting, and second, revision techniques from editor Cheryl Klein.

Querytracker explains how to nail a synopsis.

Author Jody Hedlund tells us how to avoid backstory problems.

On contests:

Pam and Quita from Y(A)? Cuz we write! are hosting a 200 followers giveaway. Go help them celebrate!

Holly Dodson’s blogoversary celebration! Win an Amazon giftcard, or preorders of WHERE SHE WENT and SUPERNATURALLY.

Great list. I love when I don't need to read many words. And thanks for the shout out on my contest. If peeps say they heard it from you, that means more chances for you to win. *throws confetti*
