Friday Faves: December 16

I swear this blog is not becoming a once-a-week/roundup type deal. It’s just that I’m still sick, and my daughter has a double ear infection and I have a bazillion things going on with the holidays, and yeah. I don’t even have time to sleep. I’m praying things will calm down and I’ll finally get better here soon. Because being sick for the entirety of December? TOTALLY BLOWS.

Anyway.

Favorite posts of the week: There are a few. This post in author Natalie Whipple’s series on writing beginnings, all about world building. And this post from writer Laura Pauling on earning out, with a lot of great links. A LOT. And finally this self-explanatory post from Querytracker on writing killer loglines.

Favorite read of the week: You know those books you keep meaning to get to, but they keep getting pushed aside? The Invention of Hugo Cabret was such a book for me, and I finally picked it up earlier this week. (Mostly because the movie just came out, and I’m one of those annoying people who insists on reading the book before I see the movie). (Except in the case of Lord of the Rings because dammit all, I just could not get past page 50).

Ahem. Sorry. Hugo Cabret was magical. It was 500-plus pages of text and drawings, and I devoured it in one sitting. If you haven’t read it yet, you should!

Favorite pictures of the week: Yes, pictures, plural. Because I can’t choose. First up, I realized that every single picture I’ve taken for the 365 Project this year was taken during the day. It’s like once the sun goes down, I tuck my camera away and forget about it. Once I realized that, I hopped outside and snapped this picture of a palm tree. I’m kind of in love with it.

And I’ve also been working hard on getting some better portraits of my daughter. This one’s not really a portrait (at all), but it makes me smile.

Favorite moment of the week: I found this recipe for something called Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies, and they were seriously amazing. AMAAAAAAAAAZING.

Least favorite moment of the week: Pretty much everything else. Did I mention how sick I am?

Favorite video of the week: So apparently this video was making the rounds way back in September, but I only discovered it this week. I can be slow on the uptake. But that doesn’t change the fact that I laughed so hard I cried at the magic of Chuck Testa.

NOPE! Have a great weekend!
