Happy Release Day, SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY! (With a Giveaway)

Today is the day SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY by the wonderfully talented Susan Dennard hits shelves, and I am SO EXCITED! I’ve read this book (more than once), and let me tell you, it’s fantastic! It’s a fast-paced, hold-onto-your-hats read with mystery, intrigue and a generous dash of swoon-worthy romance. Or, as Goodreads puts it:

The year is 1876, and there’s something strange and deadly loose in Philadelphia…

Eleanor Fitt has a lot to worry about. Her brother has gone missing, her family has fallen on hard times, and her mother is determined to marry her off to any rich young man who walks by. But this is nothing compared to what she’s just read in the newspaper—

The Dead are rising in Philadelphia.

And then, in a frightening attack, a zombie delivers a letter to Eleanor…from her brother.

Whoever is controlling the Dead army has taken her brother as well. If Eleanor is going to find him, she’ll have to venture into the lab of the notorious Spirit-Hunters, who protect the city from supernatural forces. But as Eleanor spends more time with the Spirit-Hunters, including their maddeningly stubborn yet handsome inventor, Daniel, the situation becomes dire. And now, not only is her reputation on the line, but her very life may hang in the balance.

Sounds amazing, no? It is! You can get your copy here, here, here or here, OR you can let me buy your copy! Just fill out the form below and answer the following question in the comments:

In SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY, Eleanor is forced to fight off a band of angry zombies with the only thing she has on hand: her parasol. Quick, look around the room you’re in now and tell me what object you’d use to fend off a zombie attack!

Good luck!

YES! I’m excited for this book!

I’m in the office and my dad has an old baseball bat in here so I would definitely use that!

  2. Kelsey J says:

I would cheat. I’m in the living room, which is right off the kitchen so I think I would have time to run in there and grab some knives.

    I don’t have twitter or facebook. :(

  3. Colin says:

I’m in my office, and I have… um… um… oh no! I’m dead meat!!! No, wait, I have a nice hot cup of tea. If it doesn’t scald their eyes long enough for me to escape, perhaps if I offer it to them they’ll calm down enough to leave me alone. I should stock up on Hobnobs too… that’ll surely win them over. 😀 And if they don’t like the tea, well, at least I’ll go down with a nice cuppa. A good way to go. 😀

  4. Johnny Berg says:

Hmm I am in my living room so I would use some fire place pokers, the lamps for a defense, and I would use the couch for protection. I think these would help :)If this doesn’t work I would go to the kitchen and use the utensils in there.

  5. Well, I have lots of books in my bedroom. It pains me to say this, but I could always use them as projectiles…

  6. Well, I’m currently in the living room and my options are limited. They say TV turns you into mindless zombies, what if I just use the remote to turn it on as a distraction and run? xD

  7. João Victor says:

    Olá!
Sou do Brasil. Tem problema em participar? rs

    Enfim ..

    Answering the question ..

I would pick up the various threads of the computer as well and tie them tightly so that they could not escape and have me for lunch, hahaha.

  8. Grace Radford says:

uhh…all I have are books…but as The Doctor said, books are the best weapon of all!

  9. I would likely run behind the television and throw it on them when they came near. Hopefully it would destroy their head enough to kill them. I’m in the living room, my only other option would be to throw a pillow at them, or perhaps stab them in the eye with one of my daughter’s Barbie dolls… Those toes are pointy!

  10. Alwyn says:

So so so dying to read this! To fend off zombies in my room I have a large bottle of champagne that I could definitely get in a few whacks with before it broke. And a Fez. Because how can I lose while wearing a Fez (plus, fezes are cool!)

  11. YABookQueen says:

For some odd reason I have a metal pull-up bar hanging at the top of my bedroom doorway, so I’d definitely grab that if I needed to fend off the zombies. Although, I do like the suggestions of using a book, too – I have a huge dictionary that would make a very good weapon 😉

Great question, and thank you for the giveaway!

  12. Isabelle says:

I’m in the kitchen… If pepper spray works on zombies, I’d use it. But if it doesn’t I always have the knives. :)

  13. ahah this has to be my favourite blog post question prompt EVER! I’m in my living room, which has tons of tiny objects but probably nothing useful…I’d have to go with pelting a zombie with CDs (sharp corners!), then using the empty CD rack to bludgeon it.

  14. Oh, this is the best. I see a metal tray in the fireplace that I could use. I also have long metal candlestick holders that might do some damage. If I am interested in close contact, I could grab the knives. Man, I am so unprepared!

  15. Amanda says:

I’d have to go with my Playstation controller to hit them from afar (or possibly to use as a lasso) and a clothes hanger if they make it any closer. A clothes hanger hook to the eye socket might slow them down a bit.

  16. Well, I’m in my living room with a rolling grand piano, so I’d roll that grand piano onto the zombies 😀

  17. Hannah Roberts says:

I would use my pen. It’s sharp and portable!

  18. Natasha Areena says:

    *searching… searching…*
Ahaa! Found one ! I’d have to go with mosquito repellant spray :) hihi

  19. Ashley G says:

I’m in my bedroom and have lots of high heels so I throw them!

  20. Gosh, I never realized how poorly prepared my bedroom would be for a zombie attack! I would probably use…uh…my pencil case since it’s really old, so it has a sharp edge or I’d use my graphing calculator since it’s really heavy…and some textbooks to chuck would probably slow them down too! 😉

  21. Rabiah says:

Probably the chair I’m sitting on right now, the really long ruler in front of me, or my table side lamp. Thanks for the amazing giveaway 😀

  22. Lenna @She is Reading says:

Coat rack? I’ve also cot some pointy metal sticks in here ( no idea what they go to)

  23. Shelver506 says:

Should’ve read this post while I was in the kitchen! I’m currently in the dining room, so I’d probably whack the nearest zombie upside the head with the ceramic centerpiece and then make a dive for the wrought iron candlesticks.

  24. galena says:

Huge maglite. That sucker is hefty!

  25. Sara A. says:

Wow, I dont have much to defend myself! I have my heeled boots, a fan, an umbrella and a laptop! Uh ohhh

  26. Valerie says:

In my room? Well… I have a large, empty storage bin I could use to hit them a few times. Or like somebody said above, I can use books or CDs as projectiles…

  27. Daphne says:

Cannot wait to read this book! Thanks for hosting a giveaway!

  28. Daphne says:

Lol, got so excited I forgot to answer! I would use an umbrella. Or a golf club :)

  29. Dani Nguyen says:

I have this really big table lamp sitting right next to me that would probably do some damage. Thanks for the chance to win!

  30. Uhmm… My donut! Wait- I just finished eating it… Um, ooh! The fork I used! 😀 Or… I see a pair of really huge scissors! 😛

  31. Megan says:

Well…. There’s an extremely large ironing board leaning on the wall next to my desk, I suppose that could work as a weapon if I can lift it, or a shield if I can’t! LOL

  32. C.Deer says:

Well I’m at work, so the best option I have is my computer monitor, desk phone & scissors. I’m thinking the phone & scissors would make a good combination lol

  33. Krispy says:

Ideally, I’d use something with a longer reach – like a broom or baseball bat, but since those things aren’t in my room, I guess it doesn’t count? Maybe my chair?

    Thanks for this giveaway!
