Merry Christmas to me!

My husband and I decided we’re not exchanging Christmas gifts this year. We dropped some money a few weeks ago on a new lens for our camera with the understanding that it would be our Christmas gift to each other. Yay and happy holidays!

Except that I keep finding little things I have to have, so I buy them and justify them as Christmas gifts.
Tripod and camera remote to get the full potential of the new lens? Merry Christmas to me!
New toddler-friendly wedge heel boots? Merry Christmas to me!
And the latest Christmas gift to myself? I bought myself a web domain. I’ve spent close to a year debating whether, when the day (hopefully) comes, I want to publish under my maiden name or my married name. Both have their pros and cons. My maiden name is melodic and lovely, but it’s a McIrishName and there isn’t any clear uniformity on where those are stocked on the shelves. Could be after the Ma-s, or could be at the beginning of the Ms (which makes no sense to me—I’m looking at you, Barnes and Noble!) My married name is unique, but it’s French so no one ever knows how to spell it or pronounce it. These are the things that keep me up at night.
But then I made a decision. Maiden name it is. I bought the domain, did a little happy dance, and perhaps one of these days I’ll actually get it in gear enough to set up a real website. (And if anyone has any pointers on that last bit, pass them along!)
Now I really am done buying things until January. Really.
