Friday, I mean Monday, Faves — February 27

My husband and I have been talking about moving closer to the beach, and last week he made the offhand comment that it would be fun to buy a dilapidated old house on a good lot, knock it down and build our dream home. You guys. I am not the kind of person you can make these offhand comments to. Once you plant an idea in my head, I take off like I’m Usain Bolt in the Olympic trials, and I don’t slow down until I’ve either crossed the finish line or fallen down and died from exhaustion.

On Monday I got on Zillow (and Trulia and the MLS) to search for properties, and I totally found the perfect one. Now I just have to wait for them to drop the price a little more. On Tuesday I spent hours searching floor plans online. On Wednesday I was looking at pictures of kitchens and flooring. On Thursday I was checking Zillow (and Trulia and the MLS) to make sure there weren’t any lots I had missed. On Friday I was looking at design blogs for paint color inspirations. Clearly I am sick and must be stopped.

But anyway, yeah. That’s what I was up to all last week. But I did manage to keep up with a few blogs! From Writer Unboxed, How to Restore a Character’s Voice When They Develop Laryngitis. And from author Mary Lindsay over on Query Tracker, True Experience of the Editorial Process vs. Misconceptions. And lastly, Susan Dennard is giving away an ARC of SOMETHING STRANGE AND DEADLY over at Publishing Crawl. Trust me, guys, I’ve read this book and it is hold-onto-your-hats awesome.

And now with no segue whatsoever, here are some pictures I also managed to snap last week.

Sunset over my neighbor’s house.

Fresh tomatoes!

Soon-to-be fresh mangoes but now just pollen city!

Creepy spiderwebs!

Now you tell me: Are any of you like me in that you take simple ideas and run with them? (Please say I’m not alone on this). And have a great week!

You are definitely not alone in your run-with-it attitude. I do the same thing all the time. With pretty much everything. lol

I’m a run with it kind of person. But building a house, not so much. That’s kind of scary and overwhelming.

But I can’t wait to hear what you all do.

    • Meredith says:

Oh, it’s totally scary and overwhelming, And just a dream at this point. But hopefully the cards will fall in our favor on this. It depends on sooooo many different things. But don’t worry, if it does wind up working out, I’m sure I won’t be able to shut up about it. 🙂

  3. I’d totally do something like that. My husband and I are looking to buy a house in the next couple of years, and even though we’re still 2 years away, I’ve gotten obsessive about thinking about things that are totally unnecessary right now! I hope you get to build your dream home by the beach. 🙂

  4. I might have decided offhand last weekend that it was time to give away my sewing machine table and then list it, haul it downstairs, and proceed to move an entire bookcase and set of drawers since I had room to play with. So, um, yeah. And I obsessively search interior design blogs anyways (I’ve mainly planned the living room and bedroom; kitchens don’t interest me). And I found an apartment that is laughably out of my league the other day.

    I think I’m basically deluded.

    • Meredith says:

Oooh, looking at houses that are totally out of my league is such a pastime of mine too. I found a great place the other day that came in at the bargain price of $32 million. Delusion FTW!

I have a Zillow app for my phone and the iPad. We have about $1000 in savings and just re-signed our lease for two years. I have sent my husband no less that 50 houses in the past two weeks.

Also get this for paint planning.
